I’m hoping this information will assist people when trying to troubleshoot their device and speed up the process when they have any issues. The number of unlocks on a device is how many vehicles this tuner has been flashed with. All tuners come with 5 unlocks. So you can essentially change vehicles up to 5 times. Returning to stock does not use an unlock. You can return to stock and reflash the same vehicle an unlimited number of times. If you run out of unlocks, you can call SCT and setup an RMA to send the device in. For SCT to reset your unlocks back to 5 it is a flat rate charge of $65.

The number of unlocks remaining on a device does not indicate if it's locked or not. Please see below about locked tuners. Purchasing a Used Device Whenever you need to purchase a used device, always make sure the device is UNLOCKED or UNMARRIED. I have people calling in all the time that spend money on used devices that are locked and have to pay for an unlock. If you need to unlock your device, or a used device, it is $150.

The fee for this is standard with no special treatment. The ONLY time SCT will ever unlock a device for free, is if the vehicle it’s locked to was totaled out. We require proof of the total loss. You can verify if a device is locked or not by going into Device Info on the tuner and viewing the number of unlocks and the married status. If the device says MARRIED, STRATEGY, or LOCKED, It’s locked. If it says UNMARRIED, or UNLOCKED, it is unlocked and safe for use on another vehicle.
